The Who Dat Administration

Having attended that premiere SEC institution for wayward boys and cheerful coeds, Louisiana State University, and having lived in New Orleans on three separate occasions, I am familiar with the unique differences that southern Louisiana has from the rest of the country. Culture, food, humidity and speech are all unique to the land of the bayous, mosquitoes, alligators, Cajuns and YATS. Yes, YATS! An interesting breed of city dweller located only in New Orleans. YAT is the affection term used to identify a true New Orleans bred local. It stems from the way people are greeted at the local grocery store or pub (and there are many of both).

In most cities people are greeted with “Hello”, “How are you” or some other universally accepted salutation. But not in New Orleans. True New Orleaneans greet one another with “Wheryat”. The long version of this expression is “Where Are You At.” Thus we have the YATs of New Orleans which brings us to “Who Dat.”

I first heard the expression Who Dat years ago when referring to the LSU Fighting Tiger football team. People would say “Who Dat talken bout dem Tigers.” The Who Dat meaning “Who is That”. Later I heard it referring to the indomitable New Orleans Saints such as “Who Dat talken bout beaten dem Saints”. So with the Saints and New Orleans did the Who Dat Nation arise and it is with us today healthy and in grand spirits. Admired by all but understood by few.

Well the fellow in the White House, Mr. Barack Obama, must be an admirer of the Who Dat Nation as he has patterned his entire administration after it. You see every time he gets caught doing something most parents would disapprove of he utters “Who Dat”. Obviously it isn’t him, it must be someone else. When the country first learned of the horrid Fast and Furious gun running program which supplied automatic weapons to drug cartels in Mexico, Barak and his boys quickly came out with “Who Dat Do Dat?” It wasn’t him; oh no, no one in the administration knew anything about it although it was carried out by the ATF or some other Government agency. Eric Holder, our esteemed Attorney General even went before congress and openly stated “Who Dat Do Dat.” And then later when our Libyan Ambassador was murdered and three good Americans killed at Benghazi, Secretary of State Hillary (Bill Who?) Clinton went before Congress with her Who Dat Do Dat defense as did our UN Ambassador and a number of other Administration officials. They just didn’t have a clue as to what happened other than some devilish video producer who made a video that no one saw.

Another “Who Dat Do Dat” case relates to sequestration. Who made the decision to release thousands of criminal illegal aliens from prisons? No one in the administration seems to know. It definitely wasn’t Barack, And now we have the termination of guided tours of the White House and instructions to the National Park Service to reduce hours to inflict pain to the public but no one in the administration knows who gave the instructions to do so. Yes Barack and his folks seem to have embraced New Orleans and the Who Dats in a big way.

So that brings us to today, a day that the administration should find uncomfortable as Daylight Savings Time began this morning and with it comes an extra hour of light with which to look into the dealings of the Obama administration. Shedding additional sunshine on the administration would frighten some politicians but Barack knows that he can use the Who Dat defense regardless of what new developments are uncovered. So being a positive fellow he views Daylight Savings Time simply as an additional hour each day for an extended round of golf. So it is only fitting to say; here’s to you Barack, have a great Who Dat day.
